Multiplication Trick 6x6 - 10x10

This was sooooo cooool!

Check out the video on this trick.

Money Apps

The "Coin Math" app has introduction, matching, counting, shopping, and making change. All are good. I am going to start with Match the Coins.

The "Penny Me" app is good to introduce counting coins.
You have two options, quiz or count. I did not like the quiz because as soon as you miss one it gives you the option to quit. The counting one was good though.

Sum Stackers and Cash Cow are also good money apps.

Math Partner Game

Mrs. Thorne taught me a new math game.
Students work with a partner. Each student puts both hands behind their back and on each hand they put up any number of fingers. Then at the same time all hands come out and the fastest person to add up all the points (fingers) wins a point.

Can adapt to multiplication by each person using only one hand. Then multiply both numbers.

Project 365 Pro

Project 365 Pro

I started this app January 7, 2011 placing a picture each day to help me remember the year. On October 22nd, I got my first iphone so I had to repurchase the Project 365 app. This means that I had to start another project with a different itunes account. See those pictures here.

Mulitply by 11 & 12

Learning how to multiply by 11

Have students sit across from each other with whiteboards. One person writes a math problem like 11 x 3 = ___ and their partner (human calculator) tells them the answer. As soon as they earn 10 points, they switch roles.

Learning how to multiply by 12

One teammate writes 12 x 1 = ___

12 x 2 = ___

and so on to 12 x 12.

The other person writes 12 + 12 on their whiteboard and tells their teammate the answer 12 times two is 24. She/he records it. Continue adding 12 to the previous answer to complete the 12's chart.

Fun to play this with format of The Amazing Race TV show. The first 5 teams to arrive with the chart completed earn a spot in the next round. Any team arriving after are lucky it is NOT an elimination round, they only en cure a speed bump (do 5 more problems....????)

Rocket Math

The Rocket Math App is great for any math operation. It has a Scribble Pad in the bottom right corner so students can work a hard problem out on paper. Students can send screen shots of their scores, which are shown before they get to spend money earned at the rocket building store.

Each levels increases like this:

Addition / Easy = single digit
Addition / Medium = double digit
Addition / Hard = Renaming past 100

Topic 6

Penguin Jump is perfect to give students time to practice their multiples of 3 and 4's.

Students can create a private game and then choose custom, with numbers 3 and 9.
